All About Laser Biathlon

From what age can children train?

With a laser rifle — from 6–7 years. Air-rifle biathlon is usually available from 8–11 years and only under a coach's supervision.

Is it safe for children?

Yes. The equipment does not fire projectiles: it uses a laser and electronic target sensors. There are virtually no age restrictions for shooting — biathlete Anton Shipulin has spoken about this publicly.

Do I need a weapons license?

No. Laser kits are not firearms or air guns and do not require special permits.

How is it different from regular biathlon?

No recoil, gunshot sound or gunpowder smell — but greater safety, savings on ammunition, and training at any age. Rifle weight and dimensions are close to sport rifles.

Can you train outdoors?

Yes. The target is easy to disassemble and transport. Diameter switches between 45 mm (prone) and 115 mm (standing).

How much do kits cost?

Junior — $980, Master — $2,238, target — $200. See the kits page or the LASERWAR shop.

Who already uses this equipment?

The Russian Biathlon Union is actively interested in the direction. Kits have been used at exhibitions and mass events, including charity races with hundreds of participants, many of them children.
